About Enrolment
1. What is Enrolment?
Enrolment is the act of registering one's name on the Electoral Roll.
2. Why Enrol?
It is very important for every qualfied voter in Papua New Guinea to register their name on the Electoral Roll, as stipulated under the Organic Law on National and Local Level Government Elections. If a voter is not on the Electoral Roll, he or she cannot vote. (see the Organic Law on National and LLG Elections)
3. Who can Enrol?
To enrol, you must:
- be a citizen of Papua New Guinea
- be 18 years of age and older
- be registered on the electoral roll
- be of sound mind
- have lived within the electorate for six (6) months or more
4. How to Enrol?
Qualified voters must complete and sign an enrolment form for their names to be included on the Electoral Roll for their electorate of residence.
5. Where to Enrol?
If your name is not on the Electoral Roll now, you should consult your Provincial Election Manager to enrol. ( see Contact Details ). The enrolment form can only be given to you by your Provincial Election Manager.
6. When to Enrol?
New changes to the enrolment provisions now allow for a brand new Electoral Roll for the 2007 General Elections. This has become neccessary as the 2002 Electoral Rolls were not accurate and had many ghost names.
It is important that you enrol before the Issue of Writs to ensure that your name is on the roll for your electorate ( see the 2007 Election Timetable ).
