Changes to the polling period in some Highlands Provinces
The Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Trawen confirmed today that there will be extension to the dates for the polling period in some Highlands Provinces.
This decision has been made following reports from each of the Election Manager’s on the current situation on the ground in their Province.
Mr. Trawen said the reports from each of the Provinces confirmed that all Provincial Administrations have requested changes to the polling period in the provinces below:
- Enga Province
- Southern Highlands Province
- Western Highlands Province
The extended polling period for these Provinces is - :
Start of Polling: 14th June, 2008
End of Polling: 26th July, 2008
Return of Writs: 4th August, 2008
Meanwhile Mr. Trawen said preparations for the commencement of the polling period on Saturday17th May for the two other Highlands Provinces – Eastern Highlands and Chimbu – along with all other LLGs is progressing well.
The polling period for the LLG Elections will start on Saturday 17th May 2008 and continue through to Saturday 21 June 2008.
